Not Just a Sculpture (v2)
Interactive Light Installation, 2024DMX, Ardunio, Touch Designer
Not Just a Sculpture is an interactive light installation that responds to the persistent objectification of women represented in sculptural form.
Across the world, statues bear the visible traces of being repeatedly touched by passers by, reducing these representations of inspirational women into objects of desire. These acts are often dismissed with the phrase, "it's just a statue".
By making the sculpture reactive, the viewer questions their relationship to it. Is it just a sculpture that can be touched without consequence, or does it represent something more? A light beams onto the statue, tracking your movement, is it watching you? If you are to touch her, be warned.
