Project Description
This interactive installation critiques the climate crisis and media saturation using generated news headlines. Drawing inspiration from the structural play of concrete poetry, the piece uses kinetic typography to reflect the relentless pace of news consumption. Headlines fall and vanish rapidly, encouraging viewers to click on words and reveal rhymes, introducing a playful layer that underscores society’s distraction and inaction.
Technical Description
The interactive piece was built using p5 and the RiTa language processing library. For news headline generation, a Markov model was trained on over 400 pages of Climate news headlines, scraped from the Guardian's website using a custom Python script. The piece incorporates mouse-click tracking logic to enable interactivity.
